Key facts

Groupage freight across Europe. Small consignments consolidated onto scheduled trailers, cost-efficient for pallet-level volumes that do not fill a truck.

Groupage Use Cases

Small regular shipments

A few pallets per week to the same region. Groupage lets you ship affordably without waiting to fill a truck.

Multi-drop distribution

Shipping from one warehouse to 3-5 delivery addresses in the same country? Groupage with multi-drop is more efficient than separate couriers.

E-commerce pallet distribution

DTC brands shipping pallets from a central warehouse to regional fulfillment centres. Regular lanes, predictable volumes, competitive per-pallet rates.

Cross-border retail supply

Supplying retail stores or wholesalers across borders with small but regular pallet volumes. Scheduled departures on key corridors.

★★★★★

"We distribute to 4 warehouses across the Netherlands every week. Groupage keeps per-pallet costs down. One booking, multiple drops, one invoice."

The primary sources here are the EU road transport pages and the EU rules on driving time and rest periods.

Consolidation adds handling, and handling is where damage happens

Groupage moves your freight through a hub rather than directly, which is what makes it affordable and also what creates the risk. Every additional handling point is another opportunity for damage and delay, so packaging that survives one direct journey may not survive two cross dock movements.

  • Expect at least one hub transfer, sometimes two on longer or thinner lanes
  • Palletise and wrap for handling rather than for the road, edges and corners take the impact
  • Hazardous groupage is restricted by segregation rules and is not available for every class combination
  • Transit is quoted in working days, and driving bans in Germany and Switzerland remove days from the week
