Key facts

ISO tank container transport across Europe for bulk chemicals and liquids. Class 8 capable, road and intermodal moves, Collection ex works, terminal or port, tank cleaning and ADR documents arranged, one point of contact.

When an ISO tank is the right call

An ISO tank container is a framed cylindrical tank, typically 20 to 26 thousand litres, that moves by road, rail and sea. It suits longer or intermodal lanes, products that need storage at either end, and shippers who want one unit to travel the whole journey.

For a direct European road lane a road tanker is often simpler. We run both and tell you honestly which fits your product, volume and route.

Chemicals in ISO tanks

We handle class 8 corrosives and class 3 flammable liquids in suitably lined or coated ISO tanks, plus general bulk chemicals and food-grade liquids. Cleaning to the correct standard between products is arranged and certified.

ADR placarding, transport documents and CMR insurance including ADR come as standard on dangerous goods moves.

How we price it

Price depends on the product, the tank type, the lane and whether the move is pure road or intermodal. We match your requirement to a vetted operator and give you one managed price and one invoice.

Where a lane matches returning empty capacity, the rate drops, with the same compliance.

ISO tank container transport, common questions

What is ISO tank container transport?

Moving bulk liquids in a standardised framed tank that travels by road, rail and sea. It suits intermodal and longer lanes and dangerous goods that need one unit throughout.

Can you move class 8 acids in an ISO tank?

Yes, in a suitably lined or coated tank, with cleaning between products, ADR documents and CMR insurance including ADR.

ISO tank or road tanker?

Road tanker for direct European lanes, ISO tank for intermodal, longer or storage-linked moves. We quote both and advise.

When an ISO tank beats a road tanker

An ISO tank container makes sense when the move is intermodal, when the product sits at a port or terminal, or when the receiving site handles containers rather than road tankers. It also suits long lanes where the container can move by rail or sea for part of the journey.

A road tanker is usually better for a straight plant to plant run inside Europe, because it discharges directly and avoids depot handling. We will tell you which one is cheaper for your lane rather than defaulting to whichever we have available.

Depot positioning is the hidden cost in tank container work

An ISO tank move is rarely just the road leg. The container has to come from a depot, return to one, and usually be cleaned in between, and those movements are billed even though they never appear in the quoted lane. On short European lanes that positioning can exceed the transport itself.

  • Depot density is highest around Antwerp, Rotterdam and Hamburg
  • Cleaning slots at container depots are a common bottleneck at the start of the week
  • Intermodal makes sense on long lanes or where the product already sits at a port or terminal
  • For a direct plant to plant run inside Europe a road tanker usually beats a tank container on cost

How an ISO tank movement is actually sequenced

A tank container job has more steps than a road tanker job, and each one is a place where days get lost. This is the order it runs in.

  1. Confirm tank availability at the nearest depot and check the last product carried
  2. Book the cleaning slot if required, and obtain the European cleaning document
  3. Position the empty container from depot to the loading site
  4. Load, secure and prepare the dangerous goods documentation if applicable
  5. Move on road, rail or short sea depending on the lane and the tunnel restriction code
  6. Discharge at destination, then return the container to a depot within the free-days window
